This could mean trying on Christmas crochet projects…

Hi, I'm Paula and I kiss my dogs on the lips!
Our dogs are loved members of our family (as I am sure your pets are too!) and these relationships are just as important to document. My goal is to capture the personality of your pet in their natural settings or where they feel most comfortable. If you would like to see more of our work please click on the “Portfolio” link above, or you can just click here to visit the website.
Would love to have you follow us on twitter and @reply me so that I know who you are :) Cheers!

Sammie is the newest addition in my mom’s house. I am sure all of you that have multiple pets can relate to this: “Well [insert existing pets name] needs a playmate, he/she is lonely.”
SAMMIE

Sammie is the funniest dog – he loves to ‘hug’ you buy putting his paws on each side of your neck and then he wants you to hum. When you do this he becomes almost hypnotized! On a side note – my mom is our main dog sitter, the grandma. She stays over night with her two, which makes FIVE Dachshunds in the house! That also means FIVE Dachshunds in the bed with her – I can’t imagine.
Sammie is a longhair miniature Dachshund, his coloring is chocolate. I love how both he and Simon have light brown eyebrows!

Well at least we let him think that…
KIRK (just like captain Kirk)

We love you and appreciate all the support – couldn’t have done any of this without you!

I had the pleasure of taking Riley’s photos along with his best buddy Nora…
RILEY

Riley was rescued by Beth seven years ago – he was found as a puppy running aimlessly on the highway. Fortunately some co-workers brought him in and Beth eventually adopted him. Riley is super sweet and has gorgeous markings for a English Springer Spaniel. He, like Simon, helped Beth through some tough times – animals are very healing creatures!
Riley was really camera shy – as soon as I would bring the camera up to my face he would move away. So I started shooting off to the side and hoping that I would get some good shots. It’s very intimidating for most dogs/cats to be photograph – especially when the camera covers your entire face and they can’t see your eyes. It’s going to be important for me to trust my camera off the hip!

Yes, you must go out and buy a toothbrush for your dog or cat. If you have witnessed bad breath, what you think looks like plaque, gingivitis, or swollen gums – your dog may need a proper teeth cleaning and oral examination by a vet. The bottom line is dental disease can lead to a serious illness in the kidneys, liver and elsewhere.
Brushing is the best way to remove plaque from your pet’s teeth. Daily brushing is most beneficial but brushing two to three times a week is acceptable if your schedule can’t accommodate daily brushing. If you’re lucky enough (or unlucky, I have had an opportunity to observe dental cleanings at my vet) to actually see a dog with dental disease you’d run to your vet to make sure you’re brushing as often as possible with the right tools. NOTE – do NOT use human toothpaste. You’ll be able to find special toothpaste for your dogs at the vet.
In the spirit of Adopt-A-Dog month, make sure a dental check-up is on the list especially if you adopted an older dog. Some people forgot that this is equally as important as vaccinations and if your vet offers wellness exams (see Frontier Vet Hospital’s wellness plan option) then an oral examination will be part of the routine exam. Frontier Vet Hospital in Hillsboro recently offered a workshop on dental health for pet parents and the community led by Dr. Hardesty. To contact them for more information or upcoming workshops – visit their site.
Some excellent resources I’ve found include: an article on About.com and Frontier Vet Hospital has an online tutorial that discusses the importance of dental care for pets. Check these out and look inside your dog’s (or cat’s…) mouth TODAY.

Angie the CRAZY Boston Terrier! Okay, I know, she doesn’t look crazy… but just wait

ANGIE

Angie is the sister of Bentley and she is also a rescue. Jenny & Pete don’t know much about her background but they think that is what makes her so CRAZY! This little dog will take on anything to the death and she even survived crossing (by herself) one of the busiest streets in Portland, Oregon: Burnside! But with any high energy dog, once she calms down she just wants to be by you and held. Are you ready for the CRAZY picture???
Obviously she wanted her picture taken!

The amount of information on the World Wide Web for photographers is down right overwhelming. Different opinions, Canon or Nikon, film or digital, actions and presets, Lightroom2 or Aperture…I have been lucky to meet some wonderful photographers down this path of starting this business. They have been willing to share information about the things that they have learned along the way. So that is what I plan on doing here on the blog. If you are photographer just starting out (yea! we can make this journey together) or thinking about it be sure check back and also check out my resource section for photographers.
One of the best tips that I received from this gal was to buy this book: Digital Photography Boot Camp by Kevin Kubota. She also advised before taking it home drop it off at Kinkos to have spiral bound. Once you have it home – read it all the way through, breathe it, live it and adopt the whole work flow process.
Because I was just staring out I had no idea about the complication of post production workflow. But as I was working through Kevin Kubota’s process it became very clear how it could be a total mess. Thank you Allison for this tip – valuable and probably saved me years of anguish!
So in the spirit of giving, I have one copy of this book to giveaway – to enter into this random drawing leave a comment on this post:

Mowgli (pronounced: mow-glee, from the Jungle Book) is a very large Newfoundland mix. I think he might have a little Flat Coat retriever in him because of his coat. His size and bark may intimidate but this is one big teddy bear!
MOWGLI

Suzanne rescued Mowgli from the local SW Washington Humane Society. He is a really well behaved dog but I can see how a family just got in over their heads because he is so big. One of those thing to consider before buying or adopting a dog – make sure you and your property can handle the adult size version!
