Giveaway for photographers

The amount of information on the World Wide Web for photographers is down right overwhelming. Different opinions, Canon or Nikon, film or digital, actions and presets, Lightroom2 or Aperture…I have been lucky to meet some wonderful photographers down this path of starting this business. They have been willing to share information about the things that they have learned along the way. So that is what I plan on doing here on the blog. If you are photographer just starting out (yea! we can make this journey together) or thinking about it be sure check back and also check out my resource section for photographers.

One of the best tips that I received from this gal was to buy this book: Digital Photography Boot Camp by Kevin Kubota. She also advised before taking it home drop it off at Kinkos to have spiral bound. Once you have it home – read it all the way through, breathe it, live it and adopt the whole work flow process.

bootcampbook_sBecause I was just staring out I had no idea about the complication of post production workflow. But as I was working through Kevin Kubota’s process it became very clear how it could be a total mess. Thank you Allison for this tip – valuable and probably saved me years of anguish!

So in the spirit of giving, I have one copy of this book to giveaway – to enter into this random drawing leave a comment on this post:

  • Tell me how long you have been a professional photographer OR
  • if you are aspiring to become one
  • What/who do you photograph?

I just want to take good pictures of our family! Of the grandbabies, to capture moments that I know would be lost if I didn’t take the pictures. So I just want GOOD pictures! I mean really good pictures :)

I would LOVE to win this book! I’m just starting a little (amateur) photog business. My main goal is to be a youth sports photographer around my small town. We have a few “professional” photographers here, although none of them for youth sports. The county I live in has an unemployment rate of almost 15%. The only positive thing for kids to be involved in is youth sports. The ‘professional’ photographers that take a one pose picture of each individual player charges an astronomical amount for their packages. My dream, as a scrapbooker, is to be able to provide very inexpensive shots of kids to their parents, so that they, too, can enjoy preserving their memories. Most families can not afford a quality DSLR camera, and the gym lighting is almost impossible to get with a regular point & shoot camera. Anything that will help me help other parents…that would be awesome!

I received the same advise from ATJ and can second what Paula has said about the Kevin Kubota post processing work flow. Kevin and his team are amazing.

I’ve recently launched my photography business. I like to photograph children & families. I’m also jumping into commercial photography as well.

I have the book, don’t enter me. Just wanted to second what you had to say Paula!

Best kind of model Sherry! This book won’t help you use your DSLR but it will help when you process those wonderful digital photos you take! I took an online class by Karen Russell – google her. The class was perfect for me and got me on the path to manual mode!

I am an aspiring photographer and just getting started as a professional. I’m just learning the ropes and would love a copy of this book. My focus is on life-style photography, kids and families. I’m just getting my feet wet now! Thanks for posting. Fingers are crossed.

I do not really aspire to be a professional photographer, I just need to learn how to use my Oly DSLR.

I take pics of almost everything but have a very willing model in my rescued miniature poodle, Neely.

I am a professional photographer! Mostly weddings, but I love high school Senior photography as well. I got started much like many small businesses do – building a better mousetrap. I was dissatisfied with my own wedding photography on so many levels: creativity, deliverables, enthusiasm and customer service. I started from scratch based on everything I would have wanted had I been able to choose my own photographer and the rest is history :)
